A look back

Since I will have a birthday in a few days I have been looking back on some things. The thought of turning 42 makes me want to puke, but I don't feel 42 so I guess thats a good thing.

I want to tell you about a person that I shared my birthday with. Her name was Diane Crowder and I had the privilege of working with her. I can remember the first time I met Diane. I was sitting at my desk and she walked up to me. She sat on the edge of my desk and said. "Hey, can I ask you something" I said "sure". She then cocked her head and said..."Why do you walk funny". I was nearly floored that someone would come up to me and ask me that. I was glad she did it like that. I mean she had the nerve to ask me that, and not take an answer from anybody but the source. So I told her. Then I asked her why she wore a wig. She told me that a year earlier she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to have chemo and all her hair fell out. After that Diane and I became good friends. I can remember the time she got mad at me. I turned to say something to her and I see her wig flying through the air at me. She actually took the thing off and threw it at me. Now, me being me didn't throw it back at her. I picked it up and put it on.

Diane and I shared a coke and cupcake every morning. We were never allowed to have food at our desk, but Diane and I would do our best in hiding the evidence from our manager. I always thought our manager knew about it, but it was like a game for us.

Diane and I worked together for 10 years. She had several operations to remove the brain tumor that kept coming back. Once she thought she was over it, about 6 months later it would rear it's ugly head again.

They told Diane last year that with each operation the tumor would go further into her brain, and that they could no longer operate. That news was hard to take for Diane, she was a single mother trying to raise her daughter, and her daughter Whitney was her world.

Becky, Seth and I went to see Diane in June of last year. I asked her what I could bring her. All she wanted was French Vanilla Ice Cream. I bought her the best ice cream I could buy her. Diane was so weak that Becky had to fed Diane her ice cream that hot day in June. We visited for awhile and when we left I asked her what she wanted next time we visited. All she could say was Chocolate. I never got to take her the chocolate ice cream. Diane died the next week.

I wish I had a picture to show all of you what Diane looked like, but I don't. She was a great person and I am glad she passed through my life for just a little bit. Diane would have been 39 on May 19th. Happy Birthday Swirl Girl I miss you.

A night at the movies

Last night we went to see a movie. Actually the whole family went. We all chose to see RV with Robin Williams. That movie was so funny. I was reading the reviews and it only got 1 and a half stars, but from the beginning of the film you started to laugh. It was one of those things where you had to have camped before to really sit back and laugh. I highly suggest seeing the movie for a good laugh.

After the movie we went to Ruby Tuesdays and ate. It was ok, nothing to write home about. I mean I have had better food.

It has been cold and rainy here for the past week. It's getting old. I want sunshine and warm weather. I'm tired of looking at weather charts and seeing nothing but clouds over Ohio. Enough already!

I have a couple of friends that have lost loved ones the past few days. Know I'm thinking of you Jim and Shannon. Things will get better and death is always hard on the ones that are left.

Not much else is going on around here. Nothing exciting at all. I'm looking forward to a few things this summer. One of couse is vacation to Disney World in a few weeks, the other is the American Idol concert in August. Yes, I'm hooked on the stupid show. It's one of those things you really like to watch on TV but don't want to tell anyone about. We have been going to the concerts the past few years. Even my mom is hooked on it. We are going to try and get her to go to the concert with us. I think she would have a great time. Even my sister is coming up from Louisville Kentucky to go to the show. I have picked the winner for the past 2 years, although this year I was wrong. Guess I will have to do a better job next year.

Ok, enough blogging for now. I will write more when there is a little something more exciting to write about.

Hey, all of you so called friends going to WDW!!!

I hate you!!!!!!!! No not really, I just wish I was going too. I know I should be ashamed right? I mean I only go about 3 times a year, that should be enough. I think this last vacation Becky, Seth and I took was one of the best for us. Believe it or not, Disney World for us this time was relaxing. There was no pressure to "see everything". Since we bought Disney Vacation Club, we know we will be back. I think it's one of the best things we ever bought. Should have done it sooner, and I should have bought more points. I have a great idea!!!! Since most of you that read my blog own DVC, you know my birthday is coming up next week. I would love more DVC points. I think 700 more points should do it. Thanks in advance. LOL, ok then how about a Banana Cream Pie then, or I really like that Oreo Dessert that my sister-in-law makes. Ok, I want both!!!!!! Here are some more pictures of our most recent trip to the World. For all of my Disney buddies leaving this week, Have a great time, be safe, and eat good!!!!! LYMI

Flight 93

Becky and I just got back from seeing Flight 93. I don't even know how to describe the film. I felt like I was right there with the passengers. I lost it. I don't get real emotional at movies, but this one tore me up. I had to get out of the theatre. It brought back all those feelings that all of us felt on 9-11. The confusion all of us were feeling, not knowing what was going to happen. I think every American should see this film. All to often times passes and we tend to forget, and let our guard down. Every person on that flight with the exception of the hijackers were hero's. I urge you to all see this movie. It was done in very good taste, and I thought the film makers did the very best they could in making this film. If you go see it, let me know your opinion.

It's Springtime!!!!

I love the warm weather. The hotter the better for me! Yesterday was planting day around here. Becky planted flowers outside. Here are some pictures. Don't even ask me what kind of flowers they are. I have no idea. I'm not a flower person. If it looks good we buy it and plant it. I guess we should have thought to read if we should put them in the sun or shade. Oh well, they look good now. The only thing left to do for the summer is get the pool up and running. We bought the chemicals for it yesterday, so hopefully within the next 2 weeks it will be ready to go. Becky and Seth will get in that water at 50 degrees. I keep telling them they were fish in a former life. They love the water. It is nice to sit on the deck with a big glass of ice tea and watch them relax in the pool. It was one of those things just like Disney Vacation Club. I don't regret ever buying those 2 things.

If I'm not around for the next few days, don't worry I will probably be in jail. I have had trouble with my wheelchair seat for the last month. I will be going to the wheelchair store tomorrow, and it ain't gonna be pretty! From the time I got this thing they have told me what I need. From now on I am telling them what I need. For the past 3 days I have been taking chunks out of doorways, and walls. I'm so mad at these people I could scream. So if you hear me in Houston, Atlanta, Orlando, or Downingtown PA tomorrow you will know why.

I'm in the mood for a movie. I think Becky and I are due for a date night. Talk to you all soon.

What a mess!

I went in Seth's room this morning for something, and bumped his bookcase with my wheelchair. It came crashing down. What a freaking mess, he has a ton of books, and all kinds of other stuff on it. I would take a picture of the mess, but I don't have the heart to go back in there and even look at it. So, off to Walmart I go to get a new bookcase. I also know what Seth and I will be doing tonight. Putting all that stuff back on the bookcase. Agggggggggghhhhhhhh.
